2009 PR/Communications Workshop
Popular Gathering Returns to Ohio Wesleyan

BECAUSE OF VARIOUS LOGISTICAL ISSUES, THIS DRIVE-IN WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED. REGISTRATION HAS BEEN CLOSED. REFUNDS WILL BE SENT TO THOSE PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED THE WEEK OF MARCH 30, 2009. ANY QUESTIONS MAY BE DIRECTED TO PAM OR ERICKA. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED AND ARE PURSUING GOOD PR/COMMUNICATIONS SESSIONS FOR THE UPCOMING SUMMER CONFERENCE. THANK YOU.

Join your peers for an informative day covering the hot topics of the profession! One of the best networking opportunities available for public relations, communications and marketing staff from ICAA institutions!

We are offering a workshop designed especially for public relations and communications professionals. Topics this year include internal communications best practices, magazine production challenges, and special event planning. This workshop will be informal, informative, and interactive, all at a modest price!

The drive-in workshop will be held Friday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, in the Bayley Room (second floor) of Beeghly Library. The cost for this workshop is $30, which includes a light breakfast and your lunch.

Program Highlights include...

Internal Communications Best Practices
As college communicators we spend much of our day sharing our institution’s story with external audiences, and so it’s often easy to overlook our internal audiences. Melissa Dykstra, vice president at Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations will share tips for effective internal communications.

The Balancing Act of a Magazine Editor
It’s a magazine editor’s job to keep everyone on campus happy by sharing all the good news of alumni, development, and of course, the students. Spreading the college’s messages is the easy part; doing it in 48 pages (or less) is a different story. Discuss the challenges and joys of magazine production with panelists and editors Karol Crosbie, The College of Wooster, Karen Donley-Hayes, Hiram College, and Roger Routson, Otterbein College.

Taking a Second Job—Special Events Planning
You volunteered to help plan inauguration or the dedication of the new science center—all while you continue to do your regular job. Now what? Hear panelists discuss how they did it all as they helped plan a variety of special events at their institutions. Panelists include Pam Besel, Ohio Wesleyan University, Mark Cooper, Capital University, Jack Hire, Denison University, and Laurie Patton, Ohio Wesleyan University.

Come with ideas for additional discussion. We’ll also have a publication table, so bring your favorite samples from your institution!

Light breakfast and check-in begins at 9 a.m. Program begins at 9:30 a.m.
