I have always been a big believer of getting the most out of any conference you attend. Attending big ACT conferences when I was in admissions was always interesting but typically frustrating; I found myself asking, “How can we do that at AU, we are not the same as (no names please)?” It always seemed it was impossible to scale the big ideas. When I transitioned to advancement my first professional experience was at the ICAA Summer Conference. In my true nature I went in ready to take it all in as the Director of Annual Giving. What I found were people that had tremendous ideas, similar struggles, similar staff sizes and I quickly realized I had colleagues and friends I could reach out to for ideas or to vent.
That is why I immediately jumped in to volunteer to be on the Summer Conference Planning Committee and was honored to be asked to serve as treasurer. I truly believe in the mission of ICAA and I would argue that we are the best value out there. ICAA has a long history of great volunteers that have worked hard to continue the great mission of ICAA and I am excited to serve this year as president and follow in their footsteps.
The relationships we create through ICAA are truly amazing. I have many friends through ICAA and can reach out to them anytime, it is one of the reasons I love this organization so much. I say that to say this, reach out anytime, I am always willing to connect and help in any way I can!
ICAA Summer Conference
Summer Conference is always the highlight of the year for ICAA. We come together to learn, celebrate, and have fun. We all know what COVID has done to our normal way of life. After a year of not having Summer Conference the Executive Committee decided we should move forward in the virtual space. It went well, over 225 individual attendees from 32 institutions took part. Was it easy, no! A team of tremendous volunteers worked tirelessly to learn platform technology, test Zoom accounts, coordinate schedules, pack and mail coffee sleeves, talk with partners, identify educational programming speakers, and provide a professional development opportunity to our members.
The work isn’t done; we are still editing Zoom videos to provide to attendees (this is not as simple as it sounds!) We are proud of what we accomplished and we cannot thank everyone enough for all of the time and energy that went into planning and executing. Thank you to our great partners that continue to invest in ICAA and believe in us.
Lastly, thank you to our members that attended and hopefully learned a few things along the way!
Next year we plan to be back in person Wednesday, July 27th through Friday, July 29th, 2022 at the Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls so mark your calendar now!
